How it works

How It WorksAcross Europe, censorship and media freedom violations take different forms. Through a partnership between Index on Censorship and European Federation of Journalists, the programme maps the state of media freedom by crowdsourcing reports from journalists, press freedom watchdogs and others committed to improve freedom of expression and information in the region.

From information to action

How It WorksMonitoring and mapping media freedom violations is the first step to fight impunity, analyse threats and challenges, and provide appropriate support to journalists at risk. Mapping Media Freedom aims to support all media professionals by equipping them with a tool that outlines risk in each country and offers solutions for change via awareness campaigns, policy recommendations and training.
