CNN investigative reporter’s car burned in Greece

The apparent wave of fire attacks against journalists in southern Europe continues, now with an incident in Greece. This follows a string of car arson incidents around Easter in Italy. There is no suggestion that the incidents are related, although they all hit the property of media workers.

Mina Karamitrou, a well-known investigative and police reporter for CNN Greece, had parked her car outside her home in the Athens suburb of Papagou. At around 2:30 a.m. on 14. May, a flammable liquid burned her car. Reportedly no one was injured. The arson attack was publicly condemned by the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) and its affiliates, as well as by Karamitrou’s employer. The Council of Europe posted the incident on its platform listing press freedom violations.
